Σigma Instruction Manual Book One: Use of the Device

This comprehensive Instruction Manual is the definitive source for all Σigma users. It contains both a guided tutorial that examines all aspects of device function, as well as a detailed discussion of practical issues in ECT administration. Along with providing extensive training on the use of the device, it addresses a host of issues regarding the practice of ECT, including stimulus dosing, electrode site preparation, and physiological monitoring. This manual includes the Σigma Titration Tables for use in empirical dose finding, as well as Pre-Selected Dosing Tables, which take into account gender, age and electrode placement in recommending initial stimulus configurations. Two copies of this manual are included with the purchase of a Σigma device and this manual is also available for purchase separately.

Σigma Instruction Manual Book Two: Clinical Issues in the Administration of ECT

This Instruction Manual Book Two complements the Instruction Manual Book One and covers different topics. While Book One focuses on the use of the device, Book Two summaries the current state of knowledge regarding the adverse effects of ECT, standardized evaluations that may be conducted to minimize risk and document clinical outcomes, informed consent, and other clinical topics. One copy is included with the purchase of a Σigma device, and this manual is also available for purchase separately.

Σigma Instructional Video

The Σigma Instructional Video comes as a USB drive. The Instructional Video contains: (1) A Guided Tour of the Σigma and (2) A Simulated ECT Session Using the Σigma. The first video provides a tour of Σigma features, including all the menus and device options, supplementing the Instruction Manual Book One. The second video demonstrates the use of the Σigma in a simulated ECT session, including preparation of sites for stimulating and physiological monitoring electrodes, stimulus dosing, seizure monitoring, etc. This video of a simulated ECT session is especially useful for individuals new to the practice of ECT, as well as residency programs. The Instructional Video is included with the purchase of a Σigma and is also available for purchase separately.

Σigma Titration and Pre-Selected Dosing Tables

Stimulus dose titration has been widely shown to be the most accurate method for quantifying seizure threshold and determining subsequent stimulus dosage. Sometimes practitioners prefer to administer a pre-selected and avoid titration. The Σigma Titration and Pre-Selected Dosing Tables address both approaches and are included in each Instruction Manual Book One that comes with the Σigma device. These tables are also sold as a laminated set to keep readily available in the ECT Suite. Separate Titration Tables and Pre-Selected Dosing Tables are provided for One-Knob and Four-Knob operation, so that practitioners can conduct titration or pre-select stimulus configurations regardless of their preference to use one knob or independently set four knobs. Separate tables are also provided for the ultrabrief (0.3 ms pulse width), near ultrabrief (0.5 ms pulse width), and brief (1.0 ms pulse width) parameter sets. Within each table, stimulus parameters are described to deliver an electrical dose estimated to be 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 6 time the initial seizure threshold.
